A beautiful piece, Dew. Thank you.
Since I was first plopped in front of a TV set in 1954, I have been interested in the interaction between commercials and human beings. Commercials create - want. They instill in humans a sense of inadequacy or insufficiency that must be corrected. How? By buying something or watching something or believing in something.
Humans are attracted to mythical creatures, because they mirror what we would like to be or do. We strive to improve upon ourselves - whatever our state might be. I guess we assume we're not quite all we can be. There's more to come, if we only knew where to find it. Marketing helps instill this sense in all of us.
No one sells a new car, by telling everyone the old car is great - just keep it. They sell all the things we really NEED - even if we didn't know they existed.
Superheroes are a version of ourselves that seem real - even when appearing completely unrealistic.
Even average "heroes" on TV shows, escape cars riddled with hundreds of bullets - coming out, hair messed up and cursing, but not a scratch on them.
I love superheroes. Would like to be one myself. But I am also a realist and see what changes are needed. We can do both, equally well. 😉👍
