A great insightful comment, TSA. Quotes can be distilled magic. Okay a little hyperbolic perhaps, but a good quote is meaningful because it immediately connects with something we’re going through and in a way helps to resolve it or put it into perspective. They do not automatically handle what ails us — that’s not their job.

The one on standardized humans is a great one because it does speak to our educational system, our cultural norms, then and now, to social media (in how), and many other things. All people are unique — why do we want them all the same?

In 1975, when I shopped at Sainsbury (English supermarket) for the first time, I was a little shocked that they had so few varieties. 100 cans of the same exact green beans. 50 jars of the same peanut butter — no crunchy. No coffee beans — none, zilch, nada. Just Nestle’s Instant. Yuck!

Everything felt the same — the effect on me was palpable. I have to finish the story.

When I returned to the states in 1978, I spent 2 1/2 hours at Alpha Beta doing my first shopping. The first two hours and 20 minutes were spent walking up and down the aisle amazed at how diverse it was.

That’s people and why we should stop trying to make them something different — just more of who they really are.

Cheers.
