A monster is not as real person but a moral and ethical construct. Someone who draws graffiti on a brick wall, is a pain in the ass, a delinquent. Someone who draws graffiti on thousand year-old strain glass, on a Rembrandt or a church/mosque, draws ever-nearer to being called a monster based on what was written.

A man who kills a rat entering his home, is dubbed pest-control. The same man killing a kitten, is a monster.

The act is what is monstrous; the disconnecting from the moral and ethical ties that link all of us to a sane and rational society.

I don’t believe there are monsters all around us, just the potential for committing monstrous deeds. I think it is an easier target to control what we do, than change who we are. In the end we don’t have to smoke; we don’t have to drink, or spread hate, but we do it. These things can eventually be stopped. They don’t have to keep taking place. We decide, either way.
