AI . . . my first computer was the size of a Ford Pinto and just as slow. I loved what it could do, and waited for what I knew it would eventually do.
But when I read it aloud as Artificial Intelligence - I get an angry knot in my stomach.
Intelligence cannot be artificial - it is the organic commingling of mind - experience - and spirituality. What are these IT people thinking?
I recently downloaded a Scrabble game on my iPad. The AI's idea of a Very Hard match for me - is to give my opponent 5- 6 and 7 letter words every turn. Which is like getting Blackjack, 9 out of 10 hands.
What this does is suck the joy of the game right out of the room, which is what AI will eventually do to the world of words.
It's not like we need shorter, faster and easier more than we already have. Minds need to stretch and ponder - to survive.
