All my life I’ve been told that people from New York City are rude. That they are generally antagonistic, in your face and arrogant. Not true. They are simply well-schooled in the art of urban communication. They are great levelers and have a habit of sussing out the types that you describe in your article. The best way to deal with an asshole is to let them know they are one. After that, things usually smooth out.

Warning: Most New Yorkers have spent a lifetime perfecting this skill and can be trusted with its use. If you’re new to it, start off slow, it takes time.
