Ayodeji — another thought provoking article. 👌

I have a question though. What’s wrong with being the champion of the ordinary?

The King of Cool, but without the Wayfarers on.

Even the images you chose for your article have us looking into the distance; searching for our lives or some version of us, that we know, deep down, is what we really want.

I’m not saying we don’t, just saying, why is it always assumed our normal lives are weighing us down? Getting in the way of the real us. What if the real us, is the champion of the ordinary?

In western culture, propagated heavily by western style religions, we live our entire and exclusive lives in a relatively short span of time. About 70–80 years to be precise. So we tend to start every day like we’re already late. Late for the first cup of coffee. Late for the bus. Late for getting to work (even if we’re 20 minutes early). We’re sprinting through every day even when we’re taking it slow. If we haven’t achieved fame, fortune and a solid retirement plan by age 29, we’re slackers. We’re falling behind and start to feel the creep of desperation dogging our heels.

What if normal, that is a normal amount of interest, attention, dedication and appreciation for what we have, is exactly the best way to achieve some kind of greatness. You know, the tortoise and the hare parable. Maybe there’s more truth in it than we first thought in that children’s story.

Just thinking aloud on a Sunday morning.
