Back in the day - my day - sources were more highly respected because there were far fewer of them. With no Internet, librarians were the keepers of vast knowledge and dispensed it willingly from books held at the ready.

Newscasters were another source as were journalists because there was a presumption that facts would be checked and checked again before being released.

This left people in a general state of acceptance, that what they heard and read was probably true.

Information transmission in the 1960s, 70s and 80s was comparable to a fire hose in terms of volume. Enough for what was needed to make informed decisions, but not overwhelmingly so.

Today it's like Niagara Falls in your living room. A massive, never ending stream that is 99% wet and useless.

Hard to think clearly and rationally when the information fueling those thoughts are consistently inconsistent and frequently false and misleading.
