Being a little older than you, I can attest that Americans - young and old - have been admiring celebrity icons long before the billionaires began their march through society. Or the intellectually impaired began floating to the surface on social media.
It was actors or athletes, political figures (McCarthy) and others. They always did and said what others wished they could. But why?
But what is the common denominator? Lack of self-esteem or self-worth? Inability to differentiate truth from lies?
All of the above?
When you see a VW Bug rolling down the street with a fake Rolls Royce grill attached to the front - does anyone really think it's a Rolls?
