Being American used to be about the past - our constitution and Bill of Rights, our American dream, owning your own home etc. People came because they wanted that - still do.

Today it's about our divisiveness. We can't stop fighting each other and running through this antagonism is greed. Greed in America has become an Olympic sport. We can't seem to help ourselves. It's sad really. I'm old enough to have lived on streets where everyone knew each other and helped and we all came from different places originally. It was special. It's still special in some ways, but you really have to look - before it was everywhere.
