5 Ways to Rock Your Age

I like getting old. It means I’m still here. Still breathing, watching, reading … still a part of life. Living is a good thing, and yes, it beats the alternative. Having a cool six-foot statue over one’s gravesite is impressive, but not nearly as impressive as seeing it, as you walk past the graveyard.

A large part of being old is acting your age, and that is what this article is about. Doing those things that do not accentuate the age of your body but the wisdom of your mind.

Don’t wear black socks and shoes with shorts. This was never a fashion statement. It draws attention away from the cool person wearing them and focuses other’s attention on your feet, and not you. Don’t worry about skinny legs. I’ve seen skinny legs on 20-somethings, so we’re in good company. Appearances from the waist down are still important, for you and others.

Speak your age. I like feeling hip; like the world has not rushed past and left me stranded on the beach. I like being able to understand what younger people are saying or texting or referring to without asking my daughters to translate. But I am from a different era.
