Brilliant! Religions originally existed to explain the universe to man. To hopefully connect some of the dots so that mankind could better understand an otherwise harsh and unforgiving environment. But somewhere between its initial inspiration and its first gathering, someone got the idea that this thing could be used to control both information and people. Thus, the die was cast and religions have been embracing this role since the beginning.

In order for a religion to be right, someone or something, must be wrong. In order to exert control over a mind, there must be something to defend it against. Morality, sex, politics, women -- all fertile fields where sinners reside.

If causation is out there, if who or what made me do it, is out there, then everyone is a potential target for being made responsibility for someone else's misery. Being truly accountable for one's own actions has always been a bitter pill to swallow. Best to simply blame someone else. It's only been being done since, Og, lit the first fire.

Well said.
