By reading through the comments to this article, it seems like we just discovered that race in America is very nuanced. I suppose that's a good place to start.

When I first listened to what Whoopi said on The View, I got that the Nazis were bad and did bad things. (Discussions about race and people, in general, can also be very simple.) They were and they did. To everyone and eventually themselves as well.

That they were trying to cleanse their race of imperfections - yes, that was quite clear from their beginning and perhaps everyone should have made that connection. But the statement that the Holocaust was also about man's inhumanity to man - I can't imagine that would be denied. (We'd have to go back to the 14th Century and Ghengis Khan to match the death toll of one man's insanity.)

But that an opportunity was missed here, yes and no. To teach America in greater detail about this moment in time and its lingering effects on humanity, yes. To attempt to cancel Whoopie as others have been, alas no opportunity missed here.
