When purchasing a greeting card there is ZERO intention or commitment in reading it over a latte. In fact there is only one intended party who will read it and hopefully feel warm and fuzzy.

Reading takes time. Even your article here was skimmed over by what - 50-60% of everyone who opened it.

I don't have the stats to hand at the moment, but personal observations tell me that in general people are getting less and less inclined to read. Podcasts are informational. You can listen to them while shaving, jogging, ironing or defragging your hard drive. They are replacing books in the same way that YouTube clips are eliminating the need to see an entire piece or program.

We are seeking more in less. If books could be "taken in" through a patch - my guess is we'd seeing people tattooed with them.
