During my teen years, if I wanted to know what my peers were thinking, I had to ask them - one at a time. If I wanted to know what adults thought - I could ask them, but was unlikely to get an honest reply. Not so much because of the subject, but because I was a teenager and generally considered to be an incomplete human - for at least 4-5 more years.
Today you can ask a question and get 1.5 million responses in one day. The volume of response in general is overwhelming. Does this mean we are seeing more bad than good, that is a higher ratio in today's population, compared to the past? I don't know. I just know that it feels that way. Feels like more bad than good. But I question it. Not to close my eyes and pretend evil doesn't exist, but to preserve my sanity.
I saw evil growing up. Had it wash over me. Not a great experience.
Are there more racists today than 1950 or 1976? I hope not. But there are certainly more of them being heard from. That's the upside and downside of social media.
