Everybody has a “dark side” and the ability to get there pretty quickly. But most of us know where it is and how to avoid it. Those, like the ones you quoted, don’t have the mental capital to invest in better ideas and better attitudes, so they keep returning to the tried and true cliches — go back where you came from, you don’t belong here, on and on, ad nauseum.

Two minutes after they wrote their replies, they were probably staring at the crushed beer can in their hand, and the wet spot on their jeans, wondering what happened. Even they’ll forget about it — because where this shit comes from, no rational or sane idea will ever be found. It’s the dark side of the mind, where reactivity, bias, racism and every other nasty form of human behavior lives, until given permission to sneak out into the light.

Yeah, our saintly leader has made this behavior acceptable, but not for the reasons most people think. But hey, getting drunk, threatening to harm, scaring children … that’s what 20,000 years of civilization is to some people.
