Excellent piece, JD. Started me thinking.
Addiction and pain - too close friends from the early days of mankind when punishment was how we communicated. When love and understanding were still viewed poorly - like teasing a large cat with six-inch fangs and calling here kitty-kitty.
And from these awkward beginnings we branched out and became addicted to more things, like hope and need and passion and eventually it took more than aspirin and morphine to deaden the urge.
Humans are funny creatures. We think wombats and banana slugs are unusual - but no, they have nothing on us. 😊
Cheers
