Excuse me while I step onto my soap box. Okay I'm ready.

Social Media, Twitter and other platforms hold major responsibility for the decline in responsibility.

First we're suffering from shortened speech and thinking patterns because of this. Everything comes to us in small bytes and bits and anything longer - like God forbid an actual conversation using sentences - is pushed aside as too cumbersome, too time consuming. So after a while we forget how to articulate complete thoughts and those pesky feelings. Easier to send a text with a goodbye and a cute emoji or do nothing at all.

If you never run, always takes elevators and prefer Amazon to actual shopping, your legs will get weak and walking distances become a chore. Same thing will happen with the mind and our use of words and most importantly the ability to actually face a person in distress.

Ghosting is a direct and inevitable byproduct of social media. In the past your friend or neighbor actually came to your house, knocked and said WTF! Now, after a decade of shorthand and attenuated thought processes, that act is unthinkable.

People believe a text is communication - it ain't.

Good article, Esther!
