Good advice. Poetry is tough. There's something in its DNA that resists the urge to wander and take the scenic route.

I like Bukowski (most of his) because it's hard hitting and not too flowery. Actually, his stuff is not flowery at all, which is what attracts me. Bluebird as an example.
