Every time I run into someone who is a terrible listener - I know I am now speaking with someone who was never truly listened to in the past. This is why they are desperate to be heard.
I've been in management and sales for 45 years and have been successful by mainly following these two rules.
1. Treat everyone with respect.
2. Listen well to everyone and expect that they will do the same for you.
Everything else fills in the gaps between these points.
Communication is a universal solvent for all business and personal issues. It's not always easy, that's for sure, but in the end, it almost always works out.
