Critical thinking has been my hobby horse for a while now. I watch and listen all around me and am often bowled over and saddened by the circuitous routes people take to arrive at their decisions. Like taking the first right turn — off the bridge and into the Atlantic!

Activate our own curiosity … another great line. That’s really what it is, isn’t it? Allowing it to be activated. Too often we ponder — for a few seconds — then type in Google on our phones, tablets, or Apple Watch and get fed pre-packaged information from somewhere and just accept it as is.

Over the past few years, I have had very bright and articulate people pass along “great truths” to me filled with excitement, and I’ve had to wince. It took me all of two minutes to debunk their claims and gently inform them that their source was the back of a Wheaties cereal box from 1971.

We do need new quotes and the sane folks who utter them. Though, I’m already liking — Try saving Earth before blasting the crap out of Mars. To the point, practical and there’s a minor expletive being used — can’t go wrong there.
