I always loved playing baseball and its cousin softball, but I have never liked watching either. It's mostly a boring game interspersed with exciting strikeouts, tape-measure homeruns and amazing plays at the plate. Every time I think of putting a game on, my mind returns to Shea Stadium or to the Bronx, sitting in the sun, watching three up, three down, inning after inning, while beer drips down on my head from the deck above, as I dodge packets of peanuts flying past my seat. I just wish there was a way to take some of that joy we all shared in playing the game and putting a little of it in each of us as we watched one. Now that would be special.
