I did freelance over 20 years ago and made anywhere from $500 to $1500 per article. But that was before the internet. Like saying to mom and pop stores - that was before Walmart.

When AI programs are generating copy "almost as good" and overseas writers with adequate command of the language are starting at $.01/word, we're in trouble.

But quality still wins out as does determination and a willingness to fight for a decent rate.
