I know you don’t like my opinions …
Not really sure where this comes from as we’ve only had a couple of exchanges. I’m usually pretty jazzed if people show up and read my stuff.
My article was more an abstraction of the Outlier principle, where someone needs to do something for 10,000 hours before they become really good at it. This was my take on it, from what has worked for me, especially the last few months. It wasn’t a one-size-fits-all solution to anything in particular. The more I write, the greater the facility with words and ideas. It’s like running 20 miles a week in preparation of the 10K race. When race day comes all the muscles are ready, the wind is there, the attitude is primed — because of all the work done prior to it. Same concept.
Trust me, I take many days off with no writing. In fact most of the last few years was emails and plumbing contracts. Not exactly inspiring, but it pays the bills. And I do read — over 100 books in the last 2 years. So I agree with you — we need to feed the soul and reading does a good job of it for me.
