I lived in San Francisco at that time and followed the case closely. It was a sham. Fodder for comedians and cynics alike.
Twinkies. That trial set back jurisprudence for years. There are valid instances where mental health is a factor. Can one murder another human being and not have mental health come into question.
But when "twinkies made me do it" is a defense, it makes a mockery of the system and makes future innocence and guilt more difficult to prove.
