I remember the days when smoking was all free form - wherever and whenever - including on planes. Non-smokers would grouse and roll their eyes and cough - but I don't recall ever seeing one of them punching out another for lighting up.
It was a personal issue (health) but it wasn't a political one.
Now it's all personal. Wearing a mask - hell no. Brushing teeth - well, that's okay. Deodorant - sure, need to stay fresh. Clean shorts - yeah, you never know.
But masks - that constitutional. If I wear a mask I am giving up my rights as a citizen.
Yeah, my cellphone is traceable 24/7. Yeah, I pay more taxes than I should. Yeah, half the food I eat is artificial and a third of the rest is thrown away - but that's my choice. I decide that. Right.
Studies show that Man's IQ has been slowly declining for some time. I think the pandemic has accelerated the pace. We fight and make a stand over three-ply masks over our faces, but allow banks to charge us 23.9% interest on those new iPhone purchases.
I think I'll go binge on Planet of the Apes movies - I have a feeling things will be changing sooner than I thought.
Cool article, Roz!
