In the summer of 1976, the temperature went past the 90s throughout England. I believe that time is still in the record books. Several Americans staying with me - all from California - brought out the blankets and began sunning on the hillsides, while the Brits were taking cover in the shade.

When the heat spell broke, it rained for 30+ days in a row. Damp in the states just doesn't have the same meaning.

The weather was the most difficult adjustment for me. Most of us wore coats inside the house for the first few months. Double glazing hadn't reached the UK as yet. 😁

But loved everything else - still do.
