In the vernacular of many people in our society, same is a very important word. It's a safe word, a non-threatening word. It tells everyone around that who we are is the best, the standard for all to follow.

Conversely, different is a bad word, a threatening word because it challenges the status quo, shakes it up, makes everyone think - maybe there is something better.

The war we feel all around us is the result of these two words constantly in conflict. One saying please listen, the other saying never.
