I can only speak for myself but aging affects me differently. I do look in the mirror and I do remember what I looked like in the past (enough photographs around the house) so there's this constant comparison.
I look down at my knee or check out my lower back and then remember 40 years ago when neither bothered me. It seems to be loss that triggers the self-esteem issue. Loss of mobility, recovery time, ability to do an all-nighter, without feeling like you've been run over.
We remember these things and compare them to the past. Not a good habit I admit but hard to break. Worse than smoking. Haven't had a cigarette in 42 years but I still remember playing football and softball and sleeping 8-9 hours a night.
But the key thing to never forget in all of the above - is that you're still remembering. You're comparing. Which means everything is still working, life is still moving forward and it's just fine to give yourself a high-five and then go and weed-whack the front yard. 😊👍
