Under What is the problem? I think you have it right. The public does distrust the media - or at least one segment of it. But they also distrust the establishment, corporations, local governments, politicians as a whole, and on and on. Distrust is what binds all of us together. And that is very sad.

Facebook is one scandal or major mishap away from dismantling itself. They are not essential. So, in that respect, I think they can be "taken out" by forcing them to be truthful. In other words, let them do themselves in - eventually, they will.
