Interesting article, well written.

If I may …

Emotions are the dark energy of human nature — massively powerful and ubiquitous but almost entirely unknown and mysterious.

If someone just punched a fist through a wall or was huddled in a corner waiting for the waves of fear to pass … then I might agree that emotions are the dark energy of human nature. But what if that person is boating on a clear lake, high up a tree watching a hatchling or staring into the eyes of a loved one just returned? These are not dark emotions, but they certainly are powerful.

Emovere …the Latin root for emotion, essentially means — to move out.

To me, emotions are our way of releasing negative energy from the body, not releasing the Kracken who will then control us.

Whack a thumb with a hammer, and a string of angry expletives follow. Again, is it dark energy or our way of dealing with the pain?

In our society we tend to overthink how we feel and associate what is ostensibly natural with “ulterior” motives. I feel sad when I see a cat or other animal by the side of the road, but the feeling is transient. I know why I feel it and what it means … mostly that I’m human.

When we overthink something, we loose control of it. That part of the mind that operates more on ancient wiring of fight or flight takes over and channels the energy from it into equally old patterns. Run, hide, lash out, cry, scream or soar unnaturally into glee.

I think we should be more forgiving of our emotions … they are ours, and within reason, let them happen. Punching a neighbor because their leaves got on your lawn … not an actionable offense. But angry at the wind for dumping another 12,000 of them … easily felt, easily forgotten. Just stop judging what our emotions actually mean.

But I liked that you care enough to write this. 😉
