It’s been almost two decades since I first started seeing the terms veterans, soldiers or troops being used as a shield to ward off the incursion of sane objections to an insane course of action.

Usually from the right and always in front of some campaign issue, piece of legislation or political perspective that they HAD to win outright.

But when a Republican congressman, whose greatest single source of trauma was losing a six-pack once while river rafting, speaks against someone who lived through a refugee camp, then you know sanity, integrity and civic responsibility have left the room.

What some people object to, in Ilhan Omar and others like her, is simple — it’s called the truth. A concept that is becoming increasingly uncomfortable to those who raise up their crossed-fingers at its mention.
