I've read somewhere - several times actually - that pain is weakness leaving the body. I never liked this particular saying, but I'll co-opt it for my purposes. I actually think laughter is pain leaving the body. Pain caused by loss, confusion, loneliness - the choices are endless. But a good laugh - a good, from-the-soul-on-up laugh that leaves you winded and tear-filled, is a balm. A mighty middle-finger to the world of hurt that might be swirling around you at any given moment.
