Smart people have been saying — live in the moment for thousands of years. There is truth in this. At the same time we are creatures of habit. We constantly look to the past to see where we are now. Have we traveled far enough, fast enough. We are always measuring progress. Then we look to the future to relieve us of any stress or pain that the present is causing us, believing that by keeping our eyes forward we can will this life to be what we want it to be.
As a result we forget to be thankful for everything that is right here, right now. We always assume it can be better. $10,000 is better than $9000. Three bedrooms are better than two.
Funny how old sayings have a lot of wisdom in them. Stop and smell the roses, says a great deal in five words.
Excellent article.
