My first alarm clock was a sundial with a small magnifying glass fixed at 7:00 am. When sunlight went through the glass, it set a small bundle of straw on fire at the foot of my bed, which of course would wake me up. Just Kidding.
I couldn’t help but feel a little ancient after reading this. The gadgets and Apps in use to stimulate or de-stimulate our activities is pretty amazing. And a little depressing.
Do we really need all of this, though? I think a less is more, approach would work better. Less texting, less phone use, less computers .. more one on one communication.
Back in the day, I used to leave my pager in my desk — refused to carry it. I felt tethered and at the beck and call of whoever. Now, I’m addicted to my iPhone and have to attend meetings to disconnect.
Oh, well. The march of technology.
