No one likes being told what to think or what to say. At least not overtly. And yet, through all forms of current media, this is exactly what others are doing. We may call it politics or Left and Right propaganda, but rest assured, others are telling us what to think and say and it usually comes to us via false information and misleading facts and creative license in communicating pretty much anything at all. Maybe this article touches upon our current sensitivity to this. Maybe it points out that this shit is happening whether we want to admit it or not and we’re tired of it. However, does anyone disagree that the use of certain images over and over again, desensitizes a person to the context behind the image?

In my opinion, blackface, as done in the 19th century was done to make fun of and degrade an entire race. It made it easier to justify the way they were treated. It justified their exclusion. There was a cruel and rather obvious intention behind the actions of those using blackface. But today, using a GIF with a similar image is not the same thing. At least not automatically. And that to me is the difference. To exclude all uses of these images by users whose faces do not match, is unwieldy and impractical.

And yet, there is truth here. There is a danger that these images may eventually create an indifference toward the people behind him. Or conversely, it may create a greater understanding that there is a difference, an obvious difference — color — and that this should bloody well be ignored, once and for all, as a determining factor in how we deal with each other.
