Poetry is release. The hidden hurts and failures hissing through the pipes, escaping from the darkness within. Without poetry we explode or more poetically perhaps, implode like a dwarf star and become a blackhole sucking in debris and lost loves from all around us.
We all need release. Crave it. Pray for it. Suffer with it but much more without it. Poetry allows us to continue, in whatever form it might take. Words, sure, why not. That they rhyme even better. But words are emotions distilled down into molecular syntax - forming and reforming into something others can relate to, swoon over or lament that they can't quite express themselves in the same way.
Poems are sighs, deep breaths, tears quickly wiped away and heartache crushed into powder and spread over hillsides and street corners until we're okay to carry on.
Without poetry - I don't know. That thought scares me just a little.
