Social media over the past decade reminded me a great deal of drugs in my youth. I took them to feel better, self-medicate so the world didn't intrude to the point of making me sad. I see people using social media in the same way. To help them get through the day, the week and feel better in general. But it's addictive in the same ways - without it, what we do have isn't quite enough.
Don't use FB nor Instagram or Twitter. So, no withdrawals to deal with. The downside is that those I care about use them and I find myself trying to stay in touch however I can. Not easy.
