In fact, it doesn’t even exist
The dictionary defines success as …
You know what, the hell with that. Definitions are what got us into this trouble anyway.
Definitions we read — definitions that are shouted at us from the pages on Medium and in bestsellers.
How to achieve greatness. How to be a millionaire in 13 days. How to live the life you’ve always longed for — at age 26.
Success is not a destination. No train, plane or automobile will get you there. It is not on any map. You can’t stumble upon. It won’t rise up out of the mists. There are no ancient bottles — rubbed until your hands bleed — that will bring forth a Genie that can take you there.
In fact, Success is a metaphysical concept. Like turning lead into gold. Only there is no alchemist on speed dial to show you how it’s done. There aren’t 10 ways to turn your life into a success. Not a single pill you can take to get you to its door. And if it did … it would be the wrong door.
Success is what we dream of when our lives suck. When the rent is due; the baby won’t stop crying and our daily commute is robbing us of five hours every day.
It’s an illusion.
