The critics have all spoken … for now

Tear down the scenery

Put away the clouds

Repaint all the backdrops

And tell the actors aloud

They’ll be no play tonight.

Roll up the carpets

Put away the chairs

Pay off all the carpenters

And take apart the stairs

They’ll be no words to say today

The critics have all spoken

The paper’s gone to press

We gave it our best

There’ll be no redress

No songs will be sung this day

Kiss your friends goodbye,

Tell the others, please don’t cry

Hang up all your costumes

Turn off all the lights

The critics have all spoken

They’ll be no play tonight.
