Thoughtful piece, Agnes. I've been reading a lot of about The Slap since it happened. Mostly I'm trying to understand both sides.

Comedians talk shit about other people all the time - is it wrong? Should it not happen? They would probably stop if nobody laughed.

People online troll others and gleefully say nasty things about those hurting, singing, grieving. Is it wrong? They would probably stop if no one showed up to Like it.

I read one comment that stated: Will should have gone on stage, grabbed the mic and told Chris Rock and the rest of us - It's not okay to make fun of others in pain, not okay to create laughter at their expense.

In this instance I think words would have gone further with more potency then the slap. I don't think anyone would have disagreed with him or thought he was wrong.

In the end how many people laughed at Chris's joke? How many people applauded Will's acceptance speech? Humans are funny creatures. They wax philosophical about what is wrong with society and its people, and then do something that's the opposite of what they just ranted about.

How did we get so disconnected from the Reality we are apart of? When do we acquire the courage of our convictions?
