Walter Mosley might be one author to read, if you like detective novels. Easy Rawlins is one of his characters. I'm also reading a book of poems by Langston Hughes. I'm enjoying both.

I read something years back, that Hemingway had shock treatment to resolve, who knows what, and went downhill sometime afterwards when he felt the muse had been burned up in the process and he couldn't bring up the prose anymore. Couldn't swear to it, but having known people post ECT "treatment" I could see that being a by-product.
