Warning: A Mild Vent Ahead -😊.
Today's problems didn't start last week or last month. The root of dwindling church attendance goes back years/decades. It's just that most churches and their respective religions are like super-tankers. They take 12 miles to start a turn and another 20 to complete it.
Religions are ostensibly about faith, that lesson brings people in. But in reality, they're about solace and answers. Why are my crops failing? Why did my children die? If God is listening why doesn't he talk to me?
I think when churches stop relating to these basic questions and focus on politics (yeah, they do this a lot, even if they're not supposed to Tax wise) or marriage and so on, they start to lose people's interest.
The last mass I went to was in 1967. The church decided to put their tithing and donations station right at the entrance - like a box office. Relevance flew out the window for me that Sunday and has never returned. It happens.
