What Medium is doing is not new. TV does it all the time. Last season: 9 shows from the pen of Dick Wolf (Law & Order fame) aired in the same season. I guess no one else came up with any good ideas?!

Keep selling what sells.

Sorry, Tony, but back in Brooklyn we'd call what you're saying, a whole lot of schmaltz. There are writers on Medium that attract profitable readers; that enjoy a certain strata of self-help type articles, that like "trending" subjects broken down into bullet points and listicles. Then it configures their AI to drive up this traffic making it even more profitable and those writers even more popular.

Medium is Not a Darwinian experiment. The strongest writers are not surviving. Those that are, are aided by AI. Of course their readers are "finding" them and reading them and they're doing fine. It's intended that they do. In a Land of ten million stories - the fact that certain writers keep having lots of readers find them is not good readership skills and serendipity alone. It's how the platform is designed based on what makes it the most $$$. It's not rocket surgery, it's business 101.

Ever wonder why really good restaurants die when they open in the shadow of McDonalds, Pizza Hut and KFC?
