Yes, quality is subjective. In this context, it’s almost always determined by those reading the articles.

If you really need great child care, reading a niche piece on the subject, can provide the perfect answer. So in this case — the content would be invaluable. Same for pizza, a dentist or getting bats out of the attic.

But most content arrives through gatekeepers who check that box on quality, relevance and readability.

Medium tends to be like that. Those that link successfully to other platforms and drive in higher numbers of new readers, get their boxers checked most often for publication. While driving in high numbers is obviously important, being a primary criteria though, tends to keep the content less diverse and dynamic. My opinion of course.
