Your explanation seems reasonable, Michael. I’d like to think it’s as simple as that. Simple as in — it can be seen thus it can be addressed and hopefully fixed.
Personally, I don’t have an answer; at least not one that lends itself to a resolution of some kind. All I know, and I as am certain about this as I am capable of at the moment, is that whatever is being thought and considered about Trump — fear and anger are part of it. Fear of losing something or angry because they already have. Fear of change happening too quickly, anger because they weren’t consulted. Fear of losing their position/job/status in a society that’s not like it once was, anger because they couldn’t stop it or slow it down, and that fact galls them.
But then fear and anger play a role in how liberals feel as well.
These two emotions are always around. But under “normal” conditions, when people are not so god-damned angry at each other, good healing communication can occur that brings light into the darkest corners and reveals what can’t be hidden any more. Thus understanding can exist. Anger and Fear grow in an environment rife with confusion and false information. If we can’t tell who, what where or when at any given moment, then nothing resolves and false realities gain hold. That, is intentional. That’s a created environment. What’s happening today is old school. Derisive behavior, lies and false information, whispering behind people’s backs, think The House of Borgia (Renaissance) or Machiavelli, or any of Shakespeare’s plays.
We all need to stop reacting and start thinking. When a society gets so confused that it starts attacking itself — bad things happen. Again, look to history for examples.
