Your story reads too close to home, but I finished it anyway. There's an assumption in parent child relationships that because we raised them we know them. That they are of us and thus not strangers. But the truth is, they are strangers in that they are separate and unique and that line between staying part of our family or leaving us is at times so fine, we can't see it anymore. Estrangement - an interesting words that essentially means having one's heart removed by non-surgical means, at a time when we least expect it. Hope things work out for you.
